Our Take
ClickUp is the ambitious tool that wants to replace your entire toolkit. Project management, docs, goals, time tracking—it’s all there. The appeal is obvious: one interface, one bill, one source of truth. The reality is more complicated.
The problem with all-in-one tools is that none of the features are as good as the best-in-class alternatives. ClickUp’s docs aren’t as intuitive as Notion. The time tracking isn’t as seamless as specialized tools. The project management doesn’t match Linear’s speed. But it’s good enough at everything, which makes it genuinely useful for small remote teams that don’t want to manage integrations between five different products.
Think of ClickUp like choosing a Swiss Army knife instead of individual tools. You get 80% of what you need in 20% of the space. The customization is real—your team can build almost any workflow—but that flexibility becomes a liability if no one documents how things work. Good for teams that obsess over process. Risky for teams that just want something simple that works.
