Our Take

Asana is the mature choice. It’s been around long enough to solve real problems that came up when teams tried to manage complexity on simpler tools. If you’ve got multiple workstreams, different skill sets, and people who need different views of the same work, Asana handles it.

The timeline view is legitimately useful for cross-team planning. Dependencies work instead of existing as a concept people ignore. Portfolio management means your executive team can see health across initiatives without micromanaging individual tasks. But here’s the catch: flexibility is a double-edged sword. Your team needs discipline about structure or Asana becomes a dumping ground for tasks no one looks at again.

Engineering teams often find Asana bloated compared to Linear. But if you’re coordinating engineers with design, product, and ops? Asana’s the practical choice. Your PM won’t have to translate between tools. Your designer won’t need to ask where the spec is. It’s not the fastest tool, but it’s the most honest about what cross-functional work actually requires.
