Our Take
Bonusly is about making recognition real. Teammates give each other points redeemable for actual gift cards (Amazon, Starbucks, etc.). When someone helps you ship something, you send them 25 points. They accumulate, they cash out.
The key difference from “employee of the month” award systems: recognition is distributed and peer-driven. Your manager doesn’t decide who’s great. Everybody does. Over time, you see whose work is actually valued by their peers — sometimes that person isn’t the one being loudest in meetings.
For remote teams, this is useful. When people are scattered across time zones and locations, peer recognition creates connective tissue. Someone in Tokyo helps someone in Austin, gets recognized publicly, earns points. It’s lightweight culture-building that actually costs money (you’re budgeting real rewards), so people take it seriously.
